Admission requirements for programmes offered by the Institute of Social Work
At least four (4) passes in Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE), excluding religious subjects. OR the applicant must hold at least a six (6) months certificate from an institution recognized by NACTVET. OR the applicant must hold NTVA Level 3. In addition, the applicant must have at least four (4) passes in CSEE excluding religious subjects.
At least one (1) principal pass and one subsidiary pass at Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) in appropriate subjects amounting to a minimum of 1.5 points (at least one E and S), plus at least four (4) passes in CSEE excluding religious subjects. OR a certificate from an institution recognized by NACTVET with a minimum GPA of 2.0, plus at least four (4) CSEE passes excluding religious subjects. OR a Certificate in Nursing/Midwifery and related courses, or Certificate in Education (Grade III A), with an average of C from an institution recognized by NACTVET, plus at least four (4) CSEE passes excluding religious subjects.
Progression into the Ordinary Diploma programme is based on the relevant Technician Certificate qualification at NTA Level 5. Programme-specific entry qualifications apply according to the relevant programme.
Applicants may qualify through A-Level, OUT Foundation Certificate, NTA Level 7 Higher Diploma, Ordinary Diploma/FTC or equivalent qualifications as prescribed in the ISW Prospectus 2025/2026–2026/2027. A-Level applicants must meet the applicable principal-pass and points requirements according to the year of completion. Ordinary Diploma applicants require a minimum GPA of 3.0; FTC requires an average of C; Diploma in Teacher Education requires an average of B; health-related awards require an average of B+; unclassified diplomas/certificates require Distinction; and classified non-NTA Diplomas require Upper Second Class.
A Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in any related academic discipline with a PASS grade.
Applicants must have an Advanced Diploma in Social Work, Bachelor Degree in Social Work, or Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work with a minimum GPA of 2.7. Alternatively, applicants may have a Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences, preferably Community Development, Sociology, Health Sciences, Psychology, Education or another related discipline, with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.7.
Applicants must have an Advanced Diploma OR Bachelor Degree with a minimum GPA of 2.7 OR a Postgraduate Diploma in any field of study.
Applicants must possess an Advanced Diploma OR Bachelor Degree with a minimum GPA of 2.7 in Human Resource Management or any other social science field.
