Dr. Zena M. Mabeyo - Head of Department

Zena Mnasi MABEYO (PhD) is a senior lecturer in Social Work and head of Psychology Department of the Institute of Social Work in Dar es Salaam. She has been actively involved in promoting social work not only in Tanzania her home country but in other African countries. She has been the Chairperson of the Tanzania Association of Social Workers from 2012 to October 2018 and a Country Coordinator of the project entitled “Promotion of Professional Social Work in East Africa (PROSOWO) which has contributed immensely to professionalising social work and increasing the visibility of African social work both locally and globally, from 2011 to 2018. Dr Mabeyo is the East African Representative of the Africa Association of Schools of Social Work (ASSWA). She has led research and contributed in publications in the field of Social Work in her country particularly in the areas of social protection for older people, the role of social work in poverty reduction and the indigenous and innovative models of social work practice.
