Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba - Deputy Rector Academic Research and Consultancy

Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba was appointed Deputy Rector – Academic, Research and Consultancy on 14th February, 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Education degree, Master of Arts in Education degree, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education degree, all from the University of Dar es Salaam.

As an expert in the field of education, Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba has conducted various educational research projects, offered different outreach and consultancy services, supervised a good number of Master’s and Doctoral candidates, examined numerous theses and dissertations, published more than 40 articles in refereed journals, and authored 2 books, 4 book chapters, and a good number of official reports and teaching compendia. He has also lead teams of experts in preparing different documents for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, including the National School Quality Assurance Framework and its tools, National Curriculum Framework, Primary Teacher Deployment Strategy, Teacher Competences Framework, a Diploma curriculum for pre-primary and primary teacher education, and subject syllabi for a Diploma curriculum for pre-primary and primary teacher education.

Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba has served as an Overall In-charge of Special Projects Coordination Team of the then Faculty of Science, at Sokoine University of Agriculture, from July 2013 to June 2014. He also served as the Head of the then Department of Social Sciences from July 2014 to March 2016 before he was appointed the Acting Head of the Department of Language Studies from March, 2016 to June, 2017. In July 2017, Prof. Komba was appointed Head of the Department of Language Studies, the position he held until June, 2020. In July 2020, Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba was reappointed Head of the Department of Language Studies, the position he held until February, 2022 when he was appointed Deputy Rector – Academic, Research, and Consultancy, at the Institute of Social Work.

Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba is a member of various national and international boards. He is also the current Vice –Chairperson of the Management Council of the Institute of Adult Education, the position he has held for two consecutive terms from 2018.
