Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba - Deputy Rector Academic Research and Consultancy

Prof. Sotco Claudius Komba is the Deputy Rector (Academic, Research and Consultancy) at the Institute of Social Work, a position he has held since 14^th February 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Education, a Master of Arts in Education, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education, all from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Prof. Komba is a highly experienced education specialist with extensive expertise in educational research, programme evaluation, curriculum development, and policy advisory. He has conducted numerous research and consultancy assignments, supervised a substantial number of Master’s and PhD candidates, and examined a wide range of theses and dissertations. His scholarly contributions include over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, two books, four book chapters, and multiple technical reports and teaching compendia.

He has played a key role in national education reforms in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. His contributions include leading and supporting the development of National School Quality Assurance Framework and tools; National Curriculum Framework; Primary Teacher Deployment Strategy; Teacher Competences Framework; Diploma curricula for pre-primary and primary teacher education; Subject syllabi for teacher education programme; and Strategic and Scientific Plan for Enhancing Arithmetic, Reading, and Writing Competences among Pre-primary School Children and Standards One and Two Pupils.

Before his current role, Prof. Komba held several leadership positions at the Sokoine University of Agriculture, including Overall In-Charge, Special Projects Coordination Team (2013–2014); Head, Department of Social Sciences (2014–2016); Acting Head, Department of Language Studies (2016–2017); and Head, Department of Language Studies (2017–2020; reappointed 2020–2022).

In addition to his academic and administrative roles, Prof. Komba has served on various national and international boards. He is currently a member of the Academic Board of the College of Business Education.
